“For one night, walk in someone else’s shoes!” This is the theme chosen by a newly formed group of enthusiastic young people for their debut gender-bending drag production. The group calls themselves Magic City Glamour. Led by Aaron Wallace, Magic City Glamour wants their first show to make a difference in the community and will be donating all proceeds to the Yellowstone AIDS Project.
The show will be at The Loft Dance Club, 1123 1st Ave N., Billings, MT on Saturday, September 18. Doors open at 8pm and the show will begin promptly at 8:30pm. Tickets are $5 at the door.
In addition to a wide variety of performances, Magic City Glamour will be selling raffle tickets for a fireplace, 50/50 drawing, and gift baskets. Winners will be drawn at the end of the show and you must be present to win. Live auctions will be mixed in with the performances. Items being auctioned and raffled include liquor baskets donated by The Loft, adult novelties and toys donated by The Victorian and Big Sky Books, hair care products from SmartStyle inside the Laurel Wal-Mart, and many other items. All money earned from the raffles and auctions will also be donated to the Yellowstone AIDS Project.
The Yellowstone AIDS Project (YAP) is a nonprofit organization that works to prevent the spread of HIV while empowering persons living with HIV/AIDS throughout Eastern Montana. Client Service efforts include educational events, support groups, case management, emergency assistance, and more to promote self-sufficiency and self-fulfillment among clients. On the Prevention side, YAP conducts research based programs, including informational presentations as well as free and anonymous testing. Along with receiving results in 20 minutes, these testing sessions include counseling to identify and reduce individual risks. The Yellowstone AIDS Project also partners with other community groups to strengthen shared goals, increase awareness, and expand services to the community.
Magic City Glamour started with an idea by Aaron Wallace. Not sure how he could put together a show by himself, Wallace recruited a group of friends he calls “the committee” and with their hard work, the idea became reality. Wallace and his friends vow that this will not be a one-time event. They plan on producing more shows and recruiting more performers. And always on their mind, what can they do for their community in the process.
Not wanting Magic City Glamour to be just another drag show, they encourage everyone attending to dress in the spirit of the evening. Whether it is just a feather boa or a bright red pair of pumps to full out drag, they want you to have as much fun as the performers are. And for those who feel most comfortable in their own clothes are also welcome. Everyone who is wanting an outrageously fun show and to help a worthy organization is welcome to attend.
When Arya Grace, Wallace’s drag alter-ego was asked how she would describe upcoming event, she said simply, “Glamorous!”
